Guess what just landed on our desk yesterday? The February March issue of Performance Auto & Sound 100th Anniversary Special Collector’s Edition! After slowly moving passed the cover we came across a cool KIA Forte Coupe project on page 112. The project covers an HSD Coilovers install. The coupe features a fresh set of KÖNIG Backbones and worked very well with the agressive stance provided by the HSD Coilovers.
Be sure to get your copy of this issue and read about the Project KIA Forte Coupe.

For everyone out there who plays Forza Motorsport 4 you know it’s an awesome game with stunning graphics and superior gameplay. We here would like to agree! What’s even cooler about the game is the new partnership with Hyundai that offers you a free release DLC (Downloadable Content) of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster.
The Veloster in Forza Motorsport 4 is a perfect rendering of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster built by PM Lifestyle, which you may have seen at the 2011 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you have seen the car you then certainly noticed the stealthy KÖNIG Deception wheels, blueberry paint and carbon fiber components. If you haven’t seen this Veloster, be sure to check it out at a local show nearest you as the car will be on tour with Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in 2012. If not, check out the gallery below.
The Hyundai Veloster DLC can be downloaded from the Xbox 360 Storefront: CobraTuner
In the most recent issue of SEMA News (February), featured on page 23 Market Trends in Tires and Wheels, is the KÖNIG Milligram. The KÖNIG Milligram comes in three finishes: Matte Black, Silver and Gold with a Machined Undercut and are created using MAT Technology. Sizes are 18″ diameter only and come in 8.5, 9.5, and 10″ widths.
Also in this same wheel and tire trends article, Joseph Schaefer, President of KÖNIG American and chair-elect of SEMA’s Wheel & Tire Council (WTC) explained MAT Technology. “MAT Technology, a process which was developed by Enkei Japan, involves the spinning of the wheel and the barrel is squeezed in between two dies, which increases the strength and integrity of the wheel and a reduction in the materials required.” It’s definitely worth mentioning that KÖNIG has another wheel in the MAT family, the KÖNIG Kilogram.
Schaefer also explained that directional wheels may be a trend on the horizon. New for 2012, KÖNIG debuted the Turn_One a directional styled wheel finished in Quicksilver and Mirror Machine Face and Undercut.
Every so often a mag will land on our desk and we will flip through the book and check out all the latest projects. Looking through issue #21 of Nissan Sport Mag we were excited to see a 1973 / 240Z project, which was later in it’s stages. The body work was near complete and the 270 was entering the wrap phase. Instead of the retro BRE race look, they chose a modernized design. In combination with the modern wrap, they chose the old school style of the KÖNIG Rewind in Graphite with Machine Lip. The Rewind also comes in Silver with Machine Lip, and sizes ranging from 14 x 7 through 16 x 7 with low offsets, which make it a great choice for all of your retro vehicle projects. Be sure to stay tuned as Project 240Z is set to get some more engine upgrades including a header and 2-1/2″ exhaust system.
So if you haven’t been paying attention you might have missed a really cool subcompact vehicle platform that Chevy recently released. The Chevy Sonic is an awesome little platform that packs a mighty punch. With a sleek and classy presence this vehicle is offered with a turbocharged engine.
Anyhow, Sonic Insider recently published an article that highlighted 5 killer wheel designs for the new chevy sonic. The Konig Z-In was one of them! We are happy to a part of that club and even more so to continue to make products that can toughen up your car!
Stay tuned to Performance Auto Sound Magazine as they are working on their latest project. The 2012 Honda Civic Si has been paired with some really cool looking Advanti Racing Denaro Wheels in 19×8.5.
We just wanted to take a few minutes out to wish everyone and their families a very safe and happy holiday season! We sincerely appreciate all the support that you provide us and we couldn’t do it with out you!
As we approach 2012 we present you with the final calendar of the year, December! Featuring Tanya Love and the new KÖNIG Turn_One wheel. Stay tuned for 2012!
They showcased a bevy of USTCC race cars including their Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which sports a set of KÖNIG Kilograms which are well known for their performance inspired appeal, light weight and durable construction. Many people were very interested in the display, and it looks like GoGoGear earned quite a number of new fans this year. People were also excited to hear the news that the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) is approaching and they will be an opening act.
Kia is now the official safety car of USTCC. The Kia Soul was used prior to this, however, with the arrival of WTCC there was a need for a flashier car. Beginning in 2012, the USTCC will utilize the Kia Optima Hybrid to pace the track. Another light weight offering from KÖNIG wheels, the Backbone were chosen for the build and custom painted with a green accent line to compliment the custom paint. The car was debuted at the 2011 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada in November. The car was placed on the center stage at the San Francisco Auto Show and positioned direct to the main entrance and headlined the Kia booth.
Thanksgiving is the time of year when our families, friends and co-workers draw closer together and give thanks for what he have. On behalf of KÖNIG, it’s employees, friends and families – we would like to give thanks to everyone including those in the armed forces. May you come home safely to your families. May you all have a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving!
While we are at the 2011 SEMA Show we had the chance to check out the KIA Motors booth to see the 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid UTSCC Pace Car. The car was developed by Ali Arsham of GoGoGear.com
So far Ali and his team have done an exceptional job modifying this Kia Optima Hybrid and their list of modifications include a set of KÖNIG Backbone wheels which are custom painted with a neon green stripe to match paint job. Custom graphics were applied by GoGoGear.com as well as a custom color paint scheme. Other modifications include a MagnaFlow exhaust, front splitter, rear spoiler, LED light bar on the roof of the car and HID lighting.
Every fall we travel to Las Vegas, NV for the SEMA Show. The regular calendar goes from January to December but the automotive calendar starts with the SEMA Show and ends with the SEMA Show. It’s crazy to think how it approaches so fast and then passes before we know it. This year wan’t any different.
The SEMA show has felt a bit off in the past few years. It seemed that attendance in previous years was a bit lower, exhibiting companies had decreased and the overall spirit of the show didn’t have its regular “pop”. However this year was great. Amazing cars, fantastic models and incredible customers! The feeling could almost be felt in the air, it was an absolutely inspirational show.
In our booth we displayed a few new wheels, which the link is to below, plus we had an awesome Brushed Aluminum widebody RX-7 drift car from PM Lifestyle (wrecked magazine). We would like to thank everyone who came by the booth this year and share with you some pictures taken from the show.
Here is a link to some of our newer wheels. Expect to see some more TUNER designs soon also!
Konig once again is working on some cool projects. With the 2011 SEMA Show approaching we have been working with PM Lifestyle, Universal Technical Institute and a few other companies on an all new 2012 Hyundai Veloster.
For those of you who do not know the new Hyundai Veloster is a sporty compact vehicle that averages over 40mpg. Its unique styling is present through its aggressive look and 3rd door which appears on one side of the vehicle.
Helping to launch a car like this to the mainstream public and simultaneously smooth the transition into aftermarket acceptance is no easy task. That is one of the major reasons Hyundai has looked to key companies like PM Lifestyle, UTI and Konig for their help.
Just the other day it appears that the project which has been under construction in order to debut at this year’s SEMA show has leaked. So we might as well show you the rendering! The featured wheel is the Konig Deception in 18″. Matte Black Finish with Ball Cut Machine spokes.
The coolest part is that some pretty major hitters have picked up our Veloster including USA TODAY, AUTOGUIDE.COM and there are plenty more to come. If you have time, check it out!

This is a recap of Formula Drift at Evergreen Speedway, Seattle, WA that came from the KÖNIG Drift Driver Dennis Mertzanis.
*******************
Seattle, WA – Evergreen Raceway was the scene for Round 5 of Formula Drift. To start with, I wasn’t too excited to come to the track because last year I found it pretty difficult and ended up not qualifying.
It was a pretty fun 21 hour drive up to Seattle. This time I had my girlfriend with me so she could help out with some of the towing. I forgot to bring a jacket so I was freezing. It’s a bad habit of mine to dress according to where I am and not where I am going. About 4 hours out, Susan took over at the wheel so I could get some sleep. I awoke to her screaming that the truck wouldn’t go…..I snap up and listen for a driveshaft or wheels flying off, but I didn’t hear a thing. I look over at the fuel gauge and the gas light is on and the needle is buried in the red. We dodge the big rigs and get onto the shoulder. Luckily, the 115 gallon fuel tank was full, so we flipped the pump on for a few minutes. No harm, no foul…..we had a good laugh and we’re on our way.
Thursday practice was interesting. It rained for most of the day so they cancelled practice. But somehow, it cleared up later in the day so practice was back on….but only for an hour or so. I got some runs in and felt pretty good about it. The challenge with this track is getting off the bank at the right time, with the right speed and angle.
I qualified really crappy because apparently I don’t do well under pressure anymore….this is news to me. I ended up 31 out of 32 and was paired up with JTP, the leader in the series.
I knew he was fast, not only because he said so in the drivers meeting, but I’ve seen it with my own eyes. That car is a rocket ship. But I had a strategy and that was to jump the start and get to the first corner at the same time. I did just that. Then he straightened in front of me on the bank and I practically ripped the e-brake out of my car staying sideways behind him…but I did it!!!
I couldn’t believe he made a mistake like that. I knew my lead run had to be perfect and it was. I got the win!!! Apparently, his clutch had went out and that’s why he wasn’t driving well. Whatever, I’ll take it!
So I got to participate in the top 16 opening ceremonies and I chose the perfect umbrella girl: Joey Redmond from Wrecked Magazine.
Top 16, I was up against Forsberg. I took off from the start and he was really lagging behind. I think I took off too soon. I get in behind him, but the damage is done. I’m a little low on the bank by a few feet, so when we come off the bank, I shoot behind him and end up right in his smoke trail. Man, it was thick and I couldn’t see anything, so I bailed. Hindsight: I should’ve stayed in it.
On a side note: I have found some speed lately and its pretty cool. I learned that my car is getting fast and I may not need to jump the starts so much anymore.

It’s the end of July and you know what that means? Time for a new calendar! Yes, August is coming upon us quickly and so is Carolina Sanchez jamming out with the KÖNIG Wideopen. Download this hot new calendar today!
It’s Thursday, July 28th 2011, and the 2011 Honda Civic Tour kicks off in just 8 days at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. Exclusively headlining the tour are well-know bands Blink 182, and My Chemical Romance.
KÖNIG Wheels are proud to announce our involvement in the tour for yet another year. We have been involved in the Honda Civic Tour for many years and look forward to this year’s event. We’re very excited for Honda’s recent unveiling of the new body style 2012 Honda Civic, which includes the sportier Honda Civic Si Coupe, that is featured on the tour. This platform now sports a 2.4-liter, 16-valve, DOHC i-VTEC® engine that produces 201 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque, and a 6-Speed Manual Transmission. Making this Civic Si stand out from the rest are a set of KÖNIG Lightning Wheels wrapped in a set of fresh Toyo Tires The wheels were powder-coated to match the matte black paint applied by Santini Paint USA Funky graphics picked out by Blink 182 were then applied to the sides and hood of the car, followed by Honda Civic Tour graphics, which were applied to the rear of the car.

We would like to thank Honda City of Levittown, New York for displaying the KÖNIG Honda CR-Z on the sales floor for some great exposure. Honda’s new CR-Z is an exciting platform that combines sport and hybrid all together. As you may remember Konig built this car for Honda to help the launch of the platform. The Konig CR-Z was unveiled at the 2010 SEMA Show in Las Vegas in the Honda Booth. We hope that the Konig CR-Z will help to promote and show what accessorizing can do, especially to hybrids!
The car will be on showcase there for about a month. If you are local and would like to see the CR-Z and the Lightweight Konig Milligram Wheels up close and personal, just head over and check it out!
About a month ago we began the quest for searching for vehicles for our Privat Wheels booth at Waterfest 17. The result was a 2010 VW MK6 owned by James Sokol of Lindenhurst, NY, and a 2002 Audi A4 owned by Dru Yoder of Selinsgrove, PA. The MK6 sported a set of Privat Werks 18×8, while the Audi A4 sported a set of Privat Akzents 19×9.5. Both vehicles drew much attention to the Privat Booth. We are more than proud to announce that James Sokol’s 2010 MK6 took first place at the show. We would like to thank both James, and Dru for allowing us to showcase their vehicles in our booth this year.
This is a recap of Formula Drift Wall Speedway that came from the KÖNIG Drift Driver Dennis Mertzanis.
*******************
Wall, NJ – Formula Drift Round 4 at Wall speedway in beautiful New Jersey. Well, what an event. I had a good time despite the challenges. Thursday practice was crazy. For the first time with this car, I was full throttle around the entire track. Freaking sweet, but the side effect was the car caught on fire. How you ask? Well, during the build we neglected to add more than enough heat shielding material around everything. “It should be fine” is a dangerous comment. I set the cover for my fans on fire from all the heat being produced during WOT…..wow; it was awesome flogging on the car that hard.
I noticed the rear camber was too much, so we made a change. The mistake I made was I didn’t record the toe before I changed the camber…so I couldn’t set it back to what it was. So we guessed. Car got crappy and I struggled to qualify high. We did make it, but anyone that put a score down made. I’m not feeling so accomplished. The only thing I can say is that there were not many points separating me from the 18th place guy, if I remember correctly. I was slated to go against Tyler McQuirre…AGAIN.
During Top32 something weird happened. I saw ASD pull Tyler’s car to the pits during practice and I wondered what was up. I line up for tandem and he is a no show. The FD staff tells me he called a 5 min time out. At the time I was kinda hoping for a buy. Lets face it, car for car and driver for driver, I’m at a disadvantage and I could have used some luck. I always joke that there’s no easy time for me, I have to earn it. I would rather win man to man, but in this case, I wanted to move to top 16 and battle Joon or Odi.
After nearly 6 min, they announce he is ready to go with “10 seconds to spare” they said. Of course, having a stop watch handy would have been an awesome idea so we could have tracked the minutes to know he was well over 5 minutes. If I had, I could have protested. This is not a mistake I will make again…well, I probably will. I only found out after the event when people were coming up to me and saying something about 7 min, 6.5 min and so on.
What a bummer! You can’t go back in time. I could have had a top 8 finish if only I had a stop watch handy! At FD, a large part of your success is who you are paired up against and this was a good bracket for me had I beat Tyler. Well, the long and short of it is Tyler beats me because I drove crappy and I didn’t have a stop watch.

This is a recap of Formula Drift West Palm Beach that came from the KÖNIG Drift Driver Dennis Mertzanis.
*******************
West Palm Beach, Fl – Well, this event was interesting. As you guys may or may not know, the track configuration was revealed before the event. After EOS and Pfeiffer hit the wall, spraying debris into the crowd, the course was changed to a more suitable layout. It was a Road Atlanta entry and the course lasted about 15 seconds in total. I thought it was pretty fun.
During practice, I was doing pretty happy with my runs. I would go in deep and ebrake. Before you get to the clip you’re back on the throttle to blast past the first clip. You pitch it left and stab the brakes to transition it hard AND to slow the car down for the right turn. Drift it out to the outer zone at full lock and full throttle in and out of the course. Thursday I was getting it pretty good.
I was excited about qualifying on Friday because I was feeling good. I got to the track and setup. I didn’t make any changes to the car because it was good Thursday night. During Friday practice the car was a little shaky but I didn’t have a spotter to help me get back on track with my runs. I get to qualifying and royally screw it up. I scored a 55 on my first run and 41 on the second. Missed the cut by one, was 33rd. Oh well, I’m getting communications equipment and a spotter. This Mickey Mouse game is over, its getting real now. But I cannot speak for Sean, he loves this stuff.

This is a recap from Dennis Mertzanis from Formula Drift Round 2 – Road Atlanta:
**********************
Braselton, GA – Round 2 of Formula Drift was set at beautiful Road Atlanta. I love this track. It’s fast and technical. It brings out the vulnerabilities in your car and you. My favorite part of this track is the fans. Of course I love them because a huge group of them are cheering for me. Remember, Atlanta is my home town and I started drifting there for the first time in the Atlanta Braves Turner Field parking lot at DGTrials events back in 2005. Last year the crowd was huge and very Rowdy, this year was no exception. Armed with posters, megaphones and beer, my people were out of control and I loved it. I always get tons of support in Atlanta and that makes the event my favorite of the tour.
Also, I am working with Petfinder.com to have local shelters out at the events and this was the first event where a shelter came out. It was cool to meet Bill from Humane League of Lake Lanier. He was really excited to be at the event. I think it went well because Petfinder.com was pretty happy.
First of all, getting to Atlanta was difficult due to the transmission of my truck pretty much grenading. It’s a manual, so all the guys had was 5th gear. I didn’t experience it, but imagine starting out in 5th towing a 2car enclosed…I heard the clutch was smoking. I am glad I wasn’t there to see it .
We get there, set up and get to driving. As usual, RoadA is causing some trouble. Grip is always hard to get for me. I can tell how the car is hooking up during the launch. I was getting a lot of wheel spin off the line. I made some adjustments and it was better.
HOW TO (my way):I take off down the hill, shift up to 4th and initiate…straight to ebrake and lightly feather the brake to slow down for the clipping point 1. Its down to 3rd and back on throttle through clipping point 1 and up the hill to the outer clip 2. Brake hard for clipping point 2 going up the hill and either shift down or stay in 3rd. Either one is fine, but the car lags a bit in 3rd, so I chose to shift to 2nd. Now you shoot into the horseshoe and aim for the edge of the track, trying your best to barely hang that RR tire off the track but not touching the dirt. This next step is critical, stay at the edge of the track until you have a clear shot of the next clipping point at the top of the hill out of the horsehoe. Throttle it hard to get your speed up, or feather it to get the speed up of your grip is not enough. Speed is key because if you shift to early (low speed) your car will bog in the next gear and you will straighten. Just because you hit the rev-limiter doesn’t mean it’s time to shift here. You shift and get into gear and start flying down the hill towards the left hander. You want to start with shallow angle to stay off the outer rumble-strips, they bit and bit hard. At the left-hander, if you go too fast, throw a little more angle in to slow down and setup for the last right turn. If you over shoot this last turn and go off course, you will destroy your suspension on the reverse-rake-rumble strips. I had the course down pretty well, I was just in-between gears somewhat and didn’t have the speed I wanted. I really need different gearing to get the wheel speed up a lot more than it is.
RoadA is fast, technical and pretty hard to master. This makes its pretty sweet when you get some good qualifying runs and make the show on Saturday. I struggled with grip during practice and a few minor mechanical problems. I shifted in 3rd going down the hill and broke my 5th, 6th gear lock-out….and of course miss-shifted into 5th. It was an easy fix with the help of the Megan Racing guys grinder and a little bit of time. I got a chance to get some in-car video of some practice runs. I look like crap, but I am usually my worse critic. I scored a 61 my first run and I wasn’t happy. I found out my entry sucked. My next run I threw it in pretty hard and ran a good run, scored a 73. This put me in 18th place overall and paired my up with the 14th place guy, JTP. OK, so JTP got a zero his first run and laid down a conservative 2nd run to ensure he was in the show. This put him in 14th place and paired him up with me……awesome. Qualifying mid pack should ensure running guys that are equal with you, nope, not this time, I get the winner of Long Beach and the leader of the series, JTP. I knew I had a small chance to beat him, no one is perfect.
I line up for top 32 against JTP. I knew he was much faster than me down the hill, so as soon as the last light lit, I took off, jumping him off the start really hard. I’m start slamming gears to get down the hill. Just as I get to the entry, JTP flies by me and we both initiate. I got him sort of close. I run a line behind him and he leaves me going down the hill after the horseshoe. No biggie, I did a clean run the best I could do.
He follows me and of course he is on me pretty tight. The win goes to JTP. He told me this was revenge for me beating him about 4 years ago during NOPI Drift….honestly, I would have rather had this win. I owe him one now. Now it’s off to West Palm Beach where no one has the advantage of experience. See you in Florida.

As it may have been obvious from this passed weekend at the Formula Drift Long Beach event, we have signed Dennis Mertzanis for a second year in a row! Dennis is not only a great person but a hell of driver. We signed Dennis last year as a wheel sponsor in his Rookie Year. It was exciting for us to be able and step up to support his program further.
“I am really happy that Konig Wheels saw the value in our program in 2010 and now are investing more for 2011. Konig is a great company to work with because, not only are they a bunch of cool guys, but they understand the industry and what it takes to be successful.” – Dennis Mertzanis.
Dennis started off this season with a hell of a Bang by rounding out the Top 16 field. We wish Dennis the best of luck this season. Make sure you check the Formula Drift schedule to see when Dennis will be bringing the hotness to a city near you!
So this month we not only released a new calendar! DUH WINNING… But we also introduced, for the first time, the calendar in wallpaper form! Thats right you can now download this baby for your desktop if you have one of those cool widescreens!
One of our dear friends Ali Arsham who is the man behind USTCC which is a NASA Racing series, has teamed up with multiple companies INCLUDING KONIG in the build of a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe v6. The car will tour as a dedicated race car in the USTCC series this year.
Well a few short weeks ago was WEK FEST in San Francisco. Ali and the gogogear.com race Hyundai Genesis Coupe were in attendance. Here are a few images and a video to check out.
Eurotuner magazine along with Turner Motorsports wanted to see how certain products would effect the performance on an older BMW that you could obtain very inexpensively. To do this they purchased a 1992 BMW 325is for $2300. Their goal besides seeing how each of the upgraded parts would increase the vehicles track ability was to see if they could create a nice track day vehicle on a budget.
Eurotuner ran a set of our Privat Rivale Wheels in 17×8.
You can find more about this project in their April Issue which is on stands now! Check out the video!

Kicker has been a long time friend of Konig. Its nice to have such a terrific company that is always on the cutting edge of cool things to partner up with. Well just a few weeks ago the consumer electronics show took place in Las Vegas. CES is one of the largest shows in the world bring everything that is consumer product and related to electronics under one roof.
Kicker was displaying at CES to show off some of their latest, bad ass audio equipment. Additionally they had a really crazy Matrix that was fitted with our Konig Lace wheels! Man, when it comes to audio, no one beats Kicker!
Wilwood brakes are some of the best brakes in the world! Stopping you on a dime is what they do every day. Their Superlite GR brake kit is the best thing you can do for your Nissan Z or Infiniti G car.
If you look on Wilwood’s site not only are they running a really nice special on this kit, but they are showing it off with a 350Z that is sporting Konig Milligrams. Thats just sweet!
